The Bearded Vulture is a scavenger that feeds mainly on the remains of dead animals. Rather than eating the meat however, this birds diet consists primarily of bone marrow. This bird has been nicknamed the bone breaker, for its habit of breaking bones by hammering them with its bill. The Bearded Vulture will also prey upon living animals however; such as tortoises, hyrax, hares, goats, reptiles and ibex. The Bearded Vulture will carry its prey into the air where it then drops it down to kill it. Bearded Vultures are originally a Creme color, the red or orange pigment comes from dust bathing.
